The Republic of Moldova will receive from the European Commission a financial support of 72.5 million euros by the end of October
The European Commission will disburse financial support of 72.5 million euros to the Republic of Moldova, as part of the ongoing macro-financial assistance operation for the country. On Wednesday, October 25, the Republic of Moldova received a loan of 50 million euros, and by the end of the month a new tranche of 22.5 million euros will follow in the form of a grant, informs the Delegation of the European Union in the Republic of Moldova.
"The assistance represents additional support for Moldova, whose economy has been severely affected by the consequences of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine and which continues to face energy security challenges. This financial support will help the country cover part of its additional financing needs in 2023, support macroeconomic stability and ensure the continuation of reforms, alongside the ongoing program of the International Monetary Fund for Moldova. Also, this financial assistance will help Moldova to advance in its European path", reads the press release.
The ongoing macro-financial assistance operation for the Republic of Moldova has a total value of up to 295 million euros, of which 220 million euros in the form of loans and 75 million euros in the form of grants. This includes an increase of up to 145 million euros adopted by the European Parliament and the Council in June 2023, of which 72.5 million euros are to be transferred to the Republic of Moldova by the end of October.
