The US announces that Hamas is setting conditions to allow departures from the Gaza Strip
The Islamist group Hamas sets conditions to allow departures from the Gaza Strip, the US State Department announced on Monday through spokesman Matthew Miller, quoted by Reuters and Agerpres.
"Just as we believe that (Hamas) should release all the hostages that they are holding, we believe that they should (...) let go the American citizens and other foreign nationals who are basically forced to stay in Gaza against their will because Hamas is not honoring its responsibility to act on its side of the Rafah crossing" on the border with Egypt, Miller told the media.
The spokesperson of the American diplomacy also stated that 45 more aid trucks entered the Gaza Strip on Sunday, bringing the total to 150, and progress is being made in the delivery of fuel, vital for the Palestinian population in the territory controlled by the Islamist group Hamas.
He added that late last week the United States presented Israel with a clear position: communications in Gaza must be restored. Telephone and internet services partially resumed on Monday after more than a day of outage that made rescue operations more difficult as Israel continued to strike Hamas targets.
