MAEIE: "We are interacting with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Egypt to ensure the safe evacuation of our citizens"
In the context of the opening of the Rafah crossing point, between Egypt and Gaza, the authorities of the Republic of Moldova have provided the necessary lists to all parties and are interacting with them to ensure the evacuation of Moldovan citizens from the Gaza Strip. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration (MAEIE), Egypt has approved the exit of a limited number of foreign citizens from the Gaza Strip, mostly people in need of medical care.
"Our authorities have provided the necessary lists to all parties involved and we are interacting with Egypt's Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ensure the safe evacuation of our citizens," reads the statement.
According to official information, there are currently more than 7,000 foreign citizens in the Gaza Strip, and they will be evacuated gradually.
"From the current information, it is expected that transit through the Rafah crossing point will initially be allowed for the personnel of international organizations and for people in need of medical care," informs the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The institution also mentions that the consular official of the Republic of Moldova is in Egypt to provide the necessary assistance to our citizens when crossing the checkpoint, including issuing temporary travel documents.
