General local elections // Watch live the voting on Moldova 1 TV
On Sunday, November 5, keep an eye on Moldova 1 TV for live coverage of the general local elections. The public television station will have special editions at 10:00, 13:00, 16:00, and 19:00. Our reporters will inform you live from the polling stations in Balti, Orhei, Chisinau, Cahul, Comrat, and from the Central Electoral Commission about the voting process.
During the day, we will analyze with guests the electoral process, and at 21:00 you will watch the news program Mesager, in which the preliminary results of the elections will also be presented.
Citizens are expected at the polls to elect the 898 mayors and 11 thousand 58 local councilors throughout the country. The nearly 2,000 polling stations will be open until 9:00 p.m.
The general local elections are the eighth since the proclamation of the independence of the Republic of Moldova, according to alegeri.md. This year's vote is organized in accordance with the new Electoral Code, adopted in 2022.
In the general local elections, 57 thousand 396 candidates for the position of mayor and councilor in local councils from 35 political parties and one electoral block, as well as independent candidates, were registered. Of the total number of candidates for mayor, about 70 percent are men and 30 percent are women.
In all, 1,958 polling stations will be opened and over 7,600,000 ballot papers have been printed.
A first for this election is that voters who have established their domicile or temporary residence in another constituency less than 3 months before election day will not be able to vote according to that address in Sunday's local elections. They will not be able to vote even in the localities where they had their previous residence.
Students and pupils with the right to vote will be able to participate in the election even if they changed their domicile or temporary residence after August 5.
The general local elections on 5 November 2023 will be monitored by over 1500 national and international observers. For this year's general local elections, over 154 million lei were allocated from the state budget
Sunday's local elections can be considered valid in the constituency, if no less than a quarter of the number of people registered in the electoral lists participate in.
