Maia Sandu, meeting with Jānis Mažeiks: "We continue to count on the support and openness of the EU countries"

The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, discussed today with the head of the Delegation of the European Union in the Republic of Moldova, Ambassador Jānis Mažeiks. The head of state expressed her gratitude for the decision of the European Commission to recommend the EU member states to start accession negotiations and appreciated the support that the EU gives to our country, especially recently.

According to a press release from the Presidency, the interlocutors discussed the ongoing reforms, which will speed up our accession process, but also the actions that must be taken until the European Council meeting on December 14-15, this year.

"The President conveyed to Ambassador Mažeiks that we continue to rely on the support and openness of EU countries in our democratic process, reiterating that joining the European Union is the only way to protect our freedom, peace and democracy, and to raise living standards for all citizens ", reads the statement.

We remind you that on November 8, the European Commission recommended to the European Council to start accession negotiations with the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, taking into account the results obtained, as well as the ongoing reform efforts.

Both the European leaders and the Moldovan authorities welcomed the decision of the European Commission.
