Over 800 foreigners left the Gaza Strip on Sunday
An Egyptian border official told CNN that at least 826 foreigners left the Gaza Strip through the Rafah crossing on Sunday. It is the largest number of people who left the enclave in a single day, amid the war between Israel and Hamas, informs news.ro.
The US network also quotes an Egyptian government official as saying that nine wounded Palestinians passed through Rafah. Romanians are among those who left Gaza.
It was the first evacuation of foreigners since Thursday, when more than 300 people left Gaza through the crossing, according to a border official.
Located in the northern part of the Egyptian Sinai, Rafah is the only border crossing point between Gaza and Egypt. It lies along a 12.8 kilometer fence that separates Gaza from the Sinai desert.
As the only route in and out of Gaza that is not closed due to the Israeli siege, Rafah has played a key role in efforts to get aid in and people out of the enclave.
We mention that 45 Moldovan citizens, out of the approximately 120 settled in the Gaza Strip, were evacuated.
