Nicu Popescu: The Republic of Moldova has joined most of the sanctions packages aimed at Russia
The Republic of Moldova has joined 4 of the 6 sanctions packages that in one way or another target citizens or legal entities from the Russian Federation. The Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Nicu Popescu, explained in a conference that before joining any sanctions regime, it is subjected to "an analysis of the economic impact on the Republic of Moldova".
The Republic of Moldova aligns with the absolute majority of foreign policy statements and sanctions regimes developed and applied by the EU, several of these sanctions regimes that are already applied in the Republic of Moldova also target the Russian Federation, but also other states. There are still some sanctions packages that are reviewed through the lens of an analysis of the economic impact on the Republic of Moldova. Obviously, our goal is to maintain the stability and security of our country. All measures to align the Republic of Moldova with new sanctions packages are also subject to an impact analysis, which is done by other institutions. But, I want to inform you, that in the last one and a half years, the Republic of Moldova has aligned itself with several sanctions packages, some of them also targeting the Russian Federation, these things are already well known publicly", declared Nicu Popescu.
Asked about the information that appeared in the public space regarding Ilan Şor's departure from Israel and his possible meeting with politicians from the Republic of Moldova, the minister said that he does not have additional information and can "neither confirm nor deny" it.
Nicu Popescu declared, in this context, that the authorities of our country, together with the support of partners, will continue to make efforts to disoligarize and to limit destabilization attempts.
"You know very well that a very large number of countries, the EU, the USA, Canada and others have introduced sanctions regimes against these criminals and this will continue so that these people cannot destabilize the Republic of Moldova, cannot bring the Republic of Moldova into the gray area of the harmful influences coming from the East", emphasized Nicu Popescu.
