Foreign Minister of Great Britain, on a surprise visit to Chisinau

The Foreign Minister of Great Britain, David Cameron, made a surprise visit to the Republic of Moldova on Thursday evening, the head of state Maia Sandu announced on a social network. The British official also had a meeting with the head of diplomacy from Chisinau, Nicu Popescu.

The two officials discussed security in the Black Sea basin, bilateral cooperation and joint efforts against corruption, Maia Sandu emphasized. Also, the president expressed gratitude for the support offered by Great Britain to Ukraine, noting that it is crucial for the security of the Republic of Moldova, for the stability and prosperity of Europe.

"We discussed the common interest in strengthening strategic relations between Moldova and Great Britain, focusing on the benefits for our diaspora. We addressed topics such as the signing of agreements for the mutual conversion of driving licenses and the reduction of roaming charges, initiatives that will bring significant advantages to our community in the Kingdom. We also emphasized the importance of boosting collaboration in efforts to fight corruption and bring to justice those responsible for harming the state and our citizens. Strengthening the relationship with Great Britain is an essential element in strengthening the resilience and security of our country", Nicu Popescu wrote on Telegram.

We remind you that, also yesterday, the British Foreign Minister, David Cameron, met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. This was his first visit abroad since his appointment.

Former British Prime Minister David Cameron was appointed Foreign Secretary on Monday. The return of the conservative politician to the political scene in Great Britain is considered unexpected, given that he triggered the Brexit referendum, reports Reuters.
