Maia Sandu urges citizens to vote: "Our villages and cities can only develop if they are led by honest mayors"

President Maia Sandu urges citizens to vote and decide who will lead their locality, noting that villages and towns from the country can develop if they are led by honest mayors.

"People need local public administrations that are able to manage the budget of the localities correctly and efficiently. They need mayors who solve the problems of the residents. Our villages and cities can only develop if they are led by honest mayors who know how to increase the local budget by creating conditions for business development and attracting projects. Moldovans deserve to have similar to European countries living conditions at home, no matter in which region they live. Moldova deserves to be a member of the European Union and we can achieve this goal only together - the central administration, the local administration and all the citizens. Vote and decide freely how you want your locality to be!", wrote Maia Sandu on a social network.

With a call to citizens came the Prime Minister Dorin Recean, who exercised today his right to vote in the town of Codru, Chisinau Municipality.

"I think it is very important for everyone to vote. We have the second round in 273 localities to elect our mayors. Voting is the most important democratic exercise. After this, everyone, together with the local public administration as well as with the central public administration, let's work and build Europe at home", said Dorin Recean.

Today is the second round of voting for mayor election in 273 localities from the country. According to the Central Electoral Commission data, around 840 thousand citizens are expected at the polls. The polling stations will be open until 9:00 p.m.
