"Following the recommendation of the European Commission, today I am on a working visit to Brussels, in an extended format, together with colleagues from the MAEIE, the State Chancellery and the Ministry of Finance, to discuss the next steps in our EU accession process." mentioned Nicu Popescu.

In Brussels, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will have meetings with several officials, but also with the General Director for Neighborhood and Enlargement of the EU Gert-Jan Koopman, where he will discuss the actions that our country must undertake until March 2024.

We remind you that, on November 8, the European Commission recommended the European Council to start accession negotiations with the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine.

The final decision will be taken by the member states of the EU bloc at the European Council meeting on December 14-15. Recently, the president of the country, Maia Sandu, said on Radio Moldova that our country could become a full member of the European Union earlier than 2030. The head of state believes that this would be possible, if, on the one hand, the authorities make greater efforts, and, on the other hand, the member states of the community block keep the openness they have now towards the European integration of our country.
