Government requests again the extension of the state of emergency in the Republic of Moldova

In the Republic of Moldova, the state of emergency could be extended for another 30 days, starting from December 1. A draft decision in this regard was approved today by the Government at the proposal of the Minister of Internal Affairs, Adrian Efors. The official claims that the decision is determined by the imminent danger to national security caused by the war in Ukraine, including the hybrid one. However, in order to enter into force, this project must also be approved by the Parliament.

"The dynamics of the regional security situation in recent months and the uncertainty regarding the further evolution of the war waged by the Russian Federation against Ukraine constitute circumstances of maintaining risks with a high level of impact that can also affect the Republic of Moldova. Considering the strengthening of the instruments of informational influence guided from the outside with elements of total or partial disinformation, the efforts of the Russian factor are anticipated in the area of circumventing the measures of the authorities in order to maintain the amplitude of fake news, manipulations, and the promotion of distorted messages", said Minister Efros.

"We are really going to need in the next 30 days, until we strengthen our other tools, to be able to act on the energy challenges, on disinformation and propaganda, but also on the interference attempts that we have noticed lately", said Prime Minister Dorin Recean.

We remind that on September 21, the deputies voted for the last time to extend the state of emergency. During this period, the Commission for Emergency Situations of the Republic of Moldova will issue mandatory and enforceable provisions for central and local public administration authorities, public institutions, economic agents and for citizens located on the territory of the Republic of Moldova.

The state of emergency throughout the country was declared by the Parliament on February 24, 2022, at the proposal of the Government of the Republic of Moldova, since then it has been periodically extended.
