The Republic of Moldova joins the South-Eastern Europe Defense Ministerial (SEDM). The accession document was signed in Ankara (Turkey) by the Moldovan Minister of Defense Anatolie Nosatîi. The accession to SEDM will reaffirm the commitment of the Republic of Moldova for peace and stability in the region, declared Nosatîi at the signing of the accession act.
The Minister of Defense, Anatolie Nosatîi, participated in the South-Eastern Europe Defense Ministerial, held yesterday in Ankara, according to the statement of the Ministry of Defense.
"By signing the accession document to the South-Eastern European Defense Ministers Meeting Process, our country confirms its commitment to contribute to regional and international peace and stability, as well as to maintaining good neighborly relations and cooperation in the field of defense among the South-Eastern Europe states. Having the status of a candidate country for joining the European Union, the Republic of Moldova has expressed its interest in contributing with concrete steps to regional security and stability, which is deliberately aligned with the objectives of the SEDM Process", pointed out Minister Anatolie Nosatîi.
Among the main objectives of SEDM are: promoting measures to strengthen security and mutual trust, improving the level of interoperability between member countries, implementing SEDM projects, but also maintaining collaborative relations with international organizations, including the United Nations (UN), the European Union (EU), the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO) and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
The Ministry of Defense specifies that the Republic of Moldova was accepted to participate in the meetings of the SEDM Process in 2003, with the status of observer and credible contributor to maintaining stability and security in the world, being able to respond to the current challenges to peace, security and regional and international stability.
SEDM is a regional initiative that contributes to strengthening political-military collaboration relations and maintaining stability and security in South-Eastern Europe by: promoting regional cooperation and good neighborly relations, as well as strengthening regional defense capabilities.
The member states of the initiative are: Albania, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Georgia, Greece, Italy, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, United States of America, Turkey and Ukraine. The rotating presidency of the initiative and, implicitly, of the Coordination Committee, respectively of the Political-Military Steering Committee of the SEDM, will be exercised, in the period 2023-2025, by Romania.
