Summer tires in winter: Deadly Moldova road accident
One person was killed and two others were injured in a road accident in the Nisporeni district of Moldova on Sunday. Four people were in the car.
“A 44-year-old man driving a Volkswagen, with a 38-year-old woman on board, stopped and picked up a married couple as passengers. A few kilometres later, the driver lost control of the steering wheel, skidded off the road, and crashed into a tree on the side of the road,” the police said.
As a result of the collision, a 40-year-old man sitting in the back seat was killed on the spot, while his 36-year-old wife and the other woman were taken to the hospital by ambulance.
According to the police, the front tires were winter tires, while the rear tires were summer tires. In this context, the police are calling on drivers who have not changed their tires to not drive.
Up to this point, the police have announced that six road accidents with injured people have been recorded.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
