A Support Resolution for European integration and the promotion of sustainable development of the CEI region, approved by parliamentarians from 16 countries
Parliamentarians from 16 countries approved a Resolution supporting European integration and promoting the sustainable development of the Central European Initiative (CEI) region. The document was approved at the Meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Parliamentary Dimension of CEI that took place today in Chisinau.
By adopting the Resolution, the participants of the meeting emphasized the relevance of a better defined framework of interests on the part of the CEI member states and the importance of bringing together the member countries of the European Union and those who aspire to the future accession to the EU.
"Regional cooperation within the CEI is essential for achieving integrated connectivity between the European Union and its partners in the Eastern neighborhood, promoting the European integration process as the only path to stability and security," reads the document.
At the same time, the meeting participants reiterated their willingness to make joint efforts to give a new political impetus to the CEI action. In this sense, the establishment of a Convention for the consolidation of the Central European Initiative, in the form of an ad hoc working group, was proposed.
We remind you that, today, the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova hosted the Meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Parliamentary Dimension of CEI. This year, the presidency of the Central European Initiative is held by the Republic of Moldova, to be taken over, in 2024, by Albania.
CEI is the oldest and largest intergovernmental forum for regional cooperation in Central Europe, promoting political, economic, cultural and scientific cooperation between member states. The Republic of Moldova has been a member of the Central European Initiative since 1996.
