Washington reacts after Ukrainian attack that killed Russian soldiers: 'No lamentation'
There is "no lamentation" in Washington after a Ukrainian bombing killed numerous Russian soldiers in eastern Ukraine, a White House spokesman said on Wednesday, Agerpres reports Thursday, referring to AFP.

Earlier on Wednesday, Russia admitted a bloodier toll in the New Year's Eve strike on Russian soldiers in Makiivka, rising to 89 dead. John Kirby, a spokesman for President Joe Biden's National Security Council, would not comment on the numbers, while the Ukrainian military's Department of Strategic Communications claimed a much higher toll in the ranks of the Russian military at 400 dead and 300 wounded. It is “no lamentation from the (US) administration. It's war. (Ukrainians) have been invaded and they are fighting back and defending themselves," Kirby told a news conference. "Russian soldiers who are on their (Ukrainians') territory are a legitimate target of military action for Ukraine, period," he added. The bombing took place in an area of "tough fighting, and war is a bloody business," the senior former military official added. According to the Russian military, this attack was carried out with the help of HIMARS missile systems, a weapon supplied by the US.
