Ukraine thwarts russian drone attack
Ukrainian air defence forces successfully intercepted and destroyed 10 of 12 Russian drones that targeted the country overnight on Saturday-Sunday, according to the Ukrainian Air Force.
The remaining two drones, along with a cruise missile launched from Belgorod in southern Russia, evaded interception but failed to reach their targets.
"The successful defence of Ukraine's airspace is a result of the combined efforts of the air defence forces, the air force, and the navy," stated the Ukrainian Air Force command.
The drones, identified as Shahed-136 loitering munitions of Iranian origin, were launched from Primorsko-Akhtarsk in southern Russia and were headed towards northwestern Ukraine.
"The majority of the drones were shot down by the air defence forces of Ukraine's Southern defence Forces. The remaining drones, which were heading towards northwestern Ukraine, were shot down in the Starokonstantinov area of the Khmelnytskyi region, where one of Ukraine's military airfields is located," the Ukrainian Air Force specified.
The Ukrainian Air Force emphasised that the intercepted drones were part of a larger wave of attacks launched from the occupied Kherson region into Mykolaiv.
The successful defence against this latest Russian aerial assault underscores the resilience of Ukraine's air defence capabilities and highlights the ongoing cooperation between the air force, air defence forces, and navy in safeguarding Ukrainian airspace.
