Heavy clashes in Avdiivka and Herson: Ukrainians face intense struggle, two lives lost
In the wake of recent Russian bombardments on Herson, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenski confirmed the tragic loss of two lives. The assault included 23 drones and a cruise missile launched by Russia overnight, most of which were successfully intercepted by Ukrainian anti-air defence forces.
President Zelenski, in a Sunday evening video message, emphasised the ongoing battle for Ukraine's fate, stating, "Everyone should remember that the fight for Ukraine's destiny continues, and Ukrainians need support every day." Intense battles are unfolding across numerous zones along the entire front line, with Mariinka, Avdiivka, and Bahmut witnessing the heaviest clashes. The city of Herson is also facing a challenging situation, with two casualties reported. Zelenski extended condolences to the grieving families.
"Today, Russian occupiers struck again in Herson. Brutal attacks directly targeting the city - our homes, streets, and hospitals. Two people have lost their lives; condolences to the families and friends. All the wounded have received necessary assistance. Only today, in the Herson region, more than 20 Russian bombardments occurred, similar to those in Herson, purely terrorist in nature," declared President Zelenski.
The head of the Ukrainian military command "Tavria," General Oleksandr Tarnavski, highlighted the increased activity of Russian infantry along the southeastern front but noted a reduction in Moscow's aerial attacks. He mentioned successful repulsion of Russian attacks in several regions, including 12 unsuccessful attempts by Russians in Zaporojie to reclaim lost positions south of Robotîne and west of Verbove.
Simultaneously, Russian forces have decreased assaults on the city of Avdiivka in eastern Ukraine, a target since mid-October. Unofficial reports suggest their failure to capture the devastated city of Mariinka in the southwest, contrary to earlier claims by some Russian sources. The Ukrainian forces stand resilient against the ongoing aggression, with President Zelenski calling for international support amid this challenging time.
