Maia Sandu, phone discussion with the Prime Minister of Greece about the accession negotiations of the Republic of Moldova to the EU

President Maia Sandu had a phone conversation with the Prime Minister of the Hellenic Republic, Kyriakos Mitsotakis. In the discussion, the head of state emphasized the implementation of reforms by the Republic of Moldova - progress also reflected in the European Commission's December 8 report on the expansion of the European Union.

The dialogue also addressed the desire of the Republic of Moldova to start negotiations for EU accession as soon as possible. This topic is to be debated at the European Council meeting in the middle of this month.

President Sandu and Prime Minister Mitsotakis also reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.

Concrete steps in this direction are the opening of the embassy of Greece in Chisinau planned for 2024 and the recent inauguration of the Athens - Chisinau flight operated by Aegean Airlines. The leaders also referred to the continuation of cooperation in the energy field.
