Farmers resume protest in Chisinau
Farmers in Moldova will resume their protest in Chisinau's Great National Assembly Square on Thursday, starting at 10:30 a.m., according to representatives of the Farmers' Force Association.
The farmers have staged several protests in recent weeks, demanding, among other things, a moratorium on debt payments to creditors, with the cancellation of bank penalties until October 31, 2024. They also want the government to allocate over 1 billion lei from the National Fund for Agricultural Development in the coming year for micro, small, and medium-sized farmers.
Dozens of agricultural vehicles are still parked in the Great National Assembly Square. Farmers say the protests will continue.
Government spokesman Daniel Voda said that the authorities are helping farmers in a targeted manner, not just members of a single association. He cited the disbursement of 1.9 billion lei in subsidies this year, the refund of VAT, and the issuance of emergency certificates.
