Moldova, Lithuania advance dialogue on EU accession
On December 11th, Moldovan Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Nicu Popescu, met with his Lithuanian counterpart, Gabrielius Landsbergis, in Vilnius.
The meeting served as a platform to discuss Moldova's progress towards EU membership and to strengthen bilateral cooperation on key areas of mutual interest.
Both Ministers emphasised the importance of continued reform efforts in Moldova, particularly in the spheres of justice, anti-corruption, and deoligarchization. Minister Popescu stated, "We are committed to promoting reforms in these crucial areas, recognizing their vital role in our EU accession aspirations." He further expressed gratitude for Lithuania's invaluable support in enhancing the institutional capacity of the Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration.
The discussion also highlighted the importance of the Moldova-Lithuania partnership in addressing contemporary challenges, including hybrid threats and strategic communication. Both Ministers acknowledged the need for coordinated action and pledged to work together to bolster regional security and resilience.
In addition, the Ministers reaffirmed their unwavering support for the Ukrainian people and acknowledged the devastating impact of the ongoing war. They emphasised the need for continued assistance to help Ukraine overcome this crisis.
Minister Popescu's visit to Lithuania underscores the commitment of both countries to strengthen bilateral relations. This visit constitutes a crucial step within a wider diplomatic tour encompassing Brussels and Paris, demonstrating Moldova's active engagement in the European and international arenas.
