Prime Minister Shmihal: Ukraine currently has the largest minefield in the world
The war waged by Russia in Ukraine has created a vast minefield of 250,000 km2 in the country's territory, according to Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmihal, reports dpa.
"Currently it is the biggest minefield in the whole world," said Smîhal in an interview for the South Korean agency Yonhap, published on Sunday. According to Shmihal, the mined land is equivalent to more than 40% of the total area of Ukraine. "This not only makes it difficult for people to travel, but also causes major disruptions in agriculture, which is one of our main economic sectors," he said. "Russia is targeting infrastructure in densely populated areas," the Ukrainian prime minister added to Yonhap. In addition, industrial facilities such as chemical plants, steel mills and transport infrastructure were also among the targets of Russian attacks.
