€30M boost for Moldovan rural infrastructure
The Moldovan Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development (MIDR) has announced the launch of the "Satul European 2" (European Village) program, allocating MDL 600 million (€34 mln) to support infrastructure projects in rural communities throughout 2024.
Addressing a pressing need, Minister Andrei Spînu emphasised, "Water supply will be prioritised, as nearly 40% of Moldovan villages currently lack access to potable water."
The program caters to municipalities of all sizes, offering grants of up to MDL10 mln (€560,000) for villages, contingent upon a 15% local contribution in the latter case. Project proposals beyond water supply initiatives are welcome, encompassing areas such as public lighting installations, building renovations (including public and historical structures), and sports facility improvements.
"Satul European 2" builds upon the successes of its predecessors, "Satul European 1" and "Expres," which have collectively delivered 500 projects and have 400 more in progress. Minister Spînu further encouraged participation, stating, "We urge mayors of communities lacking proper water infrastructure to prioritise applications under this program."
