Ukrainian men living abroad will be called up to fight at the front next year
In search of additional soldiers, the Ukrainian Minister of Defense, Rustem Umerov, wants to call home next year the Ukrainian men who live abroad, informed dpa on Thursday, quoted by Agerpres. Ukrainian men aged between 25 and 60 from Germany and other countries who are fit for military service are to be required to come to the armed forces recruitment centers, Umerov said, Digi.24.RO reports.
The Ukrainian minister said he was extending "an invitation" and made it clear that there would be no sanctions if someone did not comply with the request. "We are still discussing what should happen if they don't come voluntarily," he added.
The Ukrainian army would like to mobilize another 450,000 to 500,000 soldiers to be able to face the Russian invasion. However, the financial and political framework conditions have yet to be clarified, and President Volodymyr Zelenskiy considers the mobilization a "sensitive issue".
Despite the ban, many Ukrainian men went abroad to avoid fighting at the front.
