Maia Sandu, about the deepfake that was posted on social networks: They aim to induce panic and make the Republic of Moldova a weak target for external influence

The head of state, Maia Sandu, claims that there are several attempts to denigrate her image as well as the state's institutions. According to her, the attacks on democracy are not only done with weapons, they are done through lies and the weakening of trust in society.

"We see more and more attempts to denigrate me, the democratic leadership of Moldova, the institutions. Tricked video images, disinformation, fake news whose sole purpose is to induce panic, divide us and make Moldova a weak target for external influence, a country that cannot freely decide its own destiny. In the villages, people tell me that the last lie is that I would forbid the picking of rose hips. It would be a joke if we didn't know that behind these lies there is a petty interest, an interest against all our citizens. Those who want to weaken Moldova have reached such a ridiculous level," reads a message posted by Maia Sandu on social networks.

The head of state warns that the lies will continue and will take on increasing proportions, and in this context, she urges people to ignore fake information and to carefully analyze what they read.

The recommendation comes in the context in which a new deepfake with president Maia Sandu appeared on a Telegram channel. This time, in this video, the so-called head of state congratulates Moldovans on New Year's Eve and urges citizens to vote for her in the next presidential elections. Throughout the video, the actress playing the role of Maia Sandu uses humorous accents.
