The Republic of Moldova is also trying to get out of Russia's zone of influence, President Sandu has a consistent way of leading and accepts that some things are not under her control, writes British journalist Alex Russell.

"Sandu's daily concern is to fight the corruption entrenched in the courts and political culture. Zelenski's show of courage was essential in 2022. But for the second winter of war there is also room for Sandu's style: less spectacular, but with steely discipline. There is something remarkable about her consistency.
