Senator Viorel Badea is of the opinion that in the last two years, especially in 2022, Romania has been and is increasingly present in the Republic of Moldova. Cooperation relations between the two states will deepen, including at the level of local authorities.

"We are preparing a draft law in the Parliament that will promote and encourage twinning between the territorial administrative units of the two states", declared the Romanian senator.

Viorel Badea, president of the Culture and Media Commission of the Romanian Senate, declares himself in favor of the creation of a common cultural space between Romania and the Republic of Moldova.

"I hope to witness an upgrade in the organisation of educational-cultural events in the two states and why not in the creation of a common cultural space where we can have common cultural manifestations not only in Romania or the Republic of Moldova, but also in other states. The example that the "Mihai Eminescu" Theatre gives us an exceptional one, I believe that these examples can be replicated", said Viorel Badea.

The inscription of the art of the shirt with altiță, an element of cultural identity of the Republic of Moldova and Romania, in the UNESCO Intangible Heritage is a manifestation of the fact that there is a Romanian cultural space, the senator noted. The two countries - Romania and the Republic of Moldova could also promote other brands in the fields of folklore, culinary art, culture.

"Anyone who leaves Romania and crosses the Prut will find absolutely the same cultural space," said Viorel Badea.

In this context, the senator emphasised that the Republic of Moldova is part of Europe and the opportunity open now - a candidate country for accession - is proof of the common space.

"If we are to talk about the European spirit that unites us, the Republic of Moldova has always been part of Europe. The fact that now it was invited - it was basically invited to take its place in the house where it is also the owner, so it's the same space. Our duty is to identify all these things that unite and connect us and to promote us throughout the world", the senator added.

In support of the idea of forming a common space, Viorel Badea sees the creation of a joint team of athletes that will perform under the same banner at the Olympic competitions.

The Romanian senator Viorel Badea was the guest of the show "At 360 degrees" with Cristina Popescu.
