North Korea fuels Ukraine war: US targets arms trade
The United States is cranking up pressure on North Korea and Russia, vowing fresh sanctions against anyone abetting their military exchange, as reported by AFP and Agerpres.
This decisive move follows a White House report confirming North Korean-supplied ballistic missiles landed in recent Ukrainian attacks, sparking concerns about escalating international tensions.
John Kirby, National Security Council spokesperson, declared, "Our intel indicates North Korea recently furnished Russia with missile launch systems and multiple ballistic missiles, some used in December 30 and January 2 strikes on Ukraine." This revelation underscores the deepening military collaboration between two heavily sanctioned nations.
The US, alongside its allies, will escalate the issue to the UN Security Council, as the transfer blatantly violates established UN sanctions on North Korea. Kirby further stated, "We will impose additional sanctions against those facilitating these arms transfers between Russia and North Korea, as well as Russia and Iran."
This announcement marks a substantial step in the US-led pushback against Russia's Ukrainian invasion. It also sheds light on the burgeoning alliance between North Korea and Russia, both ostracised by the international community.
