Romania will grant short-stay Schengen visas

Starting from March 31, 2024, Romania will grant short-stay Schengen visas. This is provided for in the decision of the Council of the European Union regarding the application of the Schengen acquis in Romania and Bulgaria, announce the Bucharest authorities, quoted by Rador.

These visas are granted for tourist or business purposes, respectively for transit in airports.

So far, Romania granted these national visas and they did not offer the right to free movement in the Schengen area.

We remind you that on December 30, the EU Council issued a decision regarding the partial accession of Romania and Bulgaria to the Schengen Area starting on March 31. Thus, sea and air border controls are eliminated.
