Russia launches massive missile attack on Ukraine
Russia launched a massive missile attack on Ukraine on Monday morning, striking dozens of targets across the country. According to RBC, the Russians used hypersonic Kinzhal missiles and ballistic missiles in the attack.
The attacks caused widespread damage, including the destruction of homes and infrastructure. Dozens of people were injured.
Explosions were reported in several Ukrainian cities, including Dnipro, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhzhya. Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov warned that there is a risk of further attacks, as the city has already been hit four times.
The city of Kryvyi Rih was also targeted by a massive missile attack, and the air defence system in the Khmelnytskyi region was activated.
In addition, the Southern Defense Forces of Ukraine reported that the Russian army launched eight Shahed-131/136 drones in the night from Sunday to Monday. The Ukrainian air defence was able to shoot down all enemy targets. Seven drones were destroyed in the Odessa region and one in the Mykolaiv region. Fragments from a downed drone fell in an open area in the Odessa region, causing a fire. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, so there were no casualties.
The spokesman for the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Andriy Kovalyov, said on Monday that the Russian occupiers launched about 125 missiles and over 400 airstrikes on Ukrainian territory during the past week, according to the Ukrinform agency.
“In the past week, there have been a total of over 370 battles. Last week, the enemy launched about 125 missiles and over 400 airstrikes against our troops' positions and civilian infrastructure, plus about 320 attacks carried out from multiple launch rocket systems,” Kovalyov detailed. He added that the Russians are continuing offensive actions in the direction of Kupyansk, where last week the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled over 30 enemy attacks.
The attacks are the latest in a series of Russian strikes on Ukraine that have killed and injured thousands of people and caused widespread damage. The United States and its allies have condemned the attacks and imposed sanctions on Russia in response.
