The package, totaling £2.5 billion ($3.19 billion), marks a significant expansion from previous years, highlighting the UK's commitment to assisting Ukraine in its ongoing war with Russia.

Drone Focus: Strengthening Ukrainian Skies

A key aspect of the new aid package is a focus on drones. The UK plans to become the largest single supplier of drones to Ukraine, with plans to provide surveillance, long-range attack, and maritime drones. Most of these unmanned aerial vehicles are expected to be manufactured in Britain, further strengthening the nation's defence industry and boosting its role in supporting Ukraine.

"The Ministry of Defence will work closely with international partners to significantly increase the number of drones provided for Ukraine's defence," stated the UK government in a press release.

Formalizing Security Ties: UK-Ukraine Pact Signed

Beyond military hardware, the visit also saw the signing of a historic security cooperation agreement between the UK and Ukraine. This agreement follows a commitment made by the G7 to offer bilateral security assurances to Ukraine, bolstering its long-term defence capabilities.

The UK described the agreement as formalising "a range of support that the UK has provided and will continue to provide for Ukraine's security, including intelligence sharing, cyber security, medical and military training, and defence industrial cooperation."

Standing by Ukraine: UK's Unwavering Commitment

Prime Minister Sunak reiterated the UK's unwavering support for Ukraine, emphasising its two-year fight for freedom and democracy.

"I am here today with one message: the UK will not waver either," Sunak declared. "We will stand with Ukraine, in their darkest hours and in the brighter days to come."

This visit and the announced aid package further solidify the UK's position as a leading supporter of Ukraine in its struggle against Russia. The focus on drones and the formalisation of security cooperation mark significant steps in bolstering Ukraine's defences and supporting its long-term security.
