Damașcan loaned to Sion: Seeking minutes in Swiss second tier
Moldovan international Vitalie Damașcan will seek new pastures in the Swiss second division, with a loan move to FC Sion confirmed by Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe president Laszlo Dioszegi.
The striker, who joined Sepsi in 2021, experienced mixed fortunes at the Romanian club. A year-long loan spell at FC Voluntari preceded his return to Sfântu Gheorghe in July 2023. Despite appearing 17 times in all competitions for Sepsi this season, Damașcan primarily found himself on the bench.
Dioszegi, speaking to Romanian media, revealed the decision to loan Damașcan to Sion: "We've agreed to let Vitalie go on loan for the remainder of the season. This move provides him with an opportunity to gain regular playing time and showcase his talents in a new environment."
Damașcan himself expressed excitement about the opportunity: "Joining FC Sion is a fantastic challenge, and I can't wait to get started. This is a chance to prove myself in a different league and contribute to the team's success."
The loan deal could offer a fresh start for the 27-year-old, who last featured for Moldova in June 2023. Consistent playing time at Sion could potentially revive his international aspirations.
