Voronezh hit by drone attack, child injured; Ukraine silent
A drone attack struck the Russian city of Voronezh early Wednesday morning, leaving a young girl injured and authorities declaring a state of emergency, as reported by BBC.
While Moscow blames Ukraine, Kyiv has yet to acknowledge the incident.
Casualties and Damage:
Governor Aleksandr Gusev confirmed fragments from a downed drone struck a multi-story apartment building in the Sovetskii district, injuring a 10-year-old girl. Images circulating online show damage to the building's façade and a fire on the eighth floor.
"As a result of the impact...a child needed medical care," Gusev said on Telegram. "The girl...has incised wounds to her arm, leg, and neck."
Local media reported residents were evacuated to a nearby school for shelter.
Drone Activity:
The Russian Defense Ministry claims its air defences intercepted or shot down eight drones over the Voronezh region during the night. Last week, authorities reported similar drone activity, with one drone shot down and another puncturing the roof of a non-residential building.
Tense Context:
This event marks the latest in a series of drone attacks on Russian territory since the outbreak of the Ukraine war. While Ukraine hasn't officially commented on these incidents, it has acknowledged using drones for offensive purposes.
The attacks exacerbate the already tense relationship between Russia and Ukraine, raising concerns about potential escalation.
