The Romanian government has solutions to the demands of protesting farmers and transporters
The Romanian government announced a support of 100 euros per hectare to farmers to compensate for the losses suffered due to the war in Ukraine. The Romanian Prime Minister, Marcel Ciolacu, claims that more than 162 thousand farmers will benefit from budgetary aid in the total amount of about 250 million euros.
"Direct support of 100 euros per hectare to growers in the vegetable sector to compensate for the losses suffered due to the war in Ukraine. We are changing the way control is carried out by weighing at border crossing points and we are setting limits according to the European legislation on tolerances regarding exceeding the weight of trucks. We repeal the indemnity limit in the case of the national contract. The compensation limit will be established by the will of the parties expressed in the contract of carriage. Today we also come with clearer provisions that regulate the examination of people who intend to obtain the initial attestation for drivers transporting people or transporting goods", declared Marcel Ciolacu.
The protests of transporters and farmers in Romania started on January 10. Several areas were blocked, and traffic was continuously hampered at Customs Siret and in Afumați.
The Minister of Agriculture, Florin Barbu, invited today, January 18, to discussions with all the farmers protesting in Afumați, in order to solve the problems they are facing.
The protesters drew up a list of 76 demands. They demand capping the RCA price, reducing the waiting time in customs and intensifying the checks made on trucks coming from Ukraine and transiting Romania.
