Russian LNG terminal in Baltic Sea on fire, no casualties
A liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Ust-Luga port on the Baltic Sea in Russia was on fire on Sunday, the regional governor said, according to the Romanian news agency Agerpres.
The terminal, located about 170 kilometres west of St. Petersburg and 35 kilometres from the Estonian border, is operated by Novatek, Russia's largest natural gas producer.
There were no casualties in the fire and personnel were evacuated, Leningrad region governor Alexander Drozdenko said on Telegram.
He did not specify what caused the fire. According to the Russian news site Shot, some locals heard a drone and a series of explosions before the fire, and the Fontanka website in St. Petersburg reported that at least two drones were seen flying towards the city before the fire at the terminal was reported.
Three large international ships were nearby the fire, but there is no information that they were damaged, Fontanka also indicated.
