With many years of experience under their belts, local officials emphasised that they defend the interests of their communities and try to meet the needs of the people they represent.

Both mayors and district presidents from all regions of the country, present at the event, mentioned that they have a tremendous responsibility to the people, and the needs of the locals are at the forefront.

"Being a mayor in a community is a very responsible thing because, as President Sandu said, we are the first line, the ones who are responsible for the first contact with the citizen, we are the ones who know the needs of the citizen, and we are the ones who are responsible for fulfilling these goals," said Marcel Bobeica, mayor of the commune of Gangura.

"As a district president, I worked on cross-border projects. I have completed three cross-border projects with the county of Galați, two with the county of Vaslui, and one in the health sector with the renovation and repair of the Hîncești Health Center," said Iurie Levinschi, president of the Hîncești District Council.

"In my first term as vice mayor, when I was active in 2015-2019, and what is now, there are significantly more opportunities, there are so many opportunities that I am not sure if we will be able to take advantage of all of them, but in the context of integration into the European Union, I am sure that there will be even more opportunities," said Leonid Boaghi, mayor of the village of Sireți.

Present at the festive event were the head of state Maia Sandu and Prime Minister Dorin Recean.

"A European future, local well-being, is what we want to offer all our fellow citizens. We want people to feel the positive changes that the process of Moldova's accession to the European Union brings in the villages and cities where they live, because EU accession means peace and good living conditions, more resources for roads, sewers, water supply, kindergartens, and schools," said Maia Sandu.

"Over 800 million lei have already been invested in these "European Village" projects, and this is the largest investment at the level of villages and districts since independence, and this program continues. The next call "European Village 2024" has already been announced. In the next few years, we will focus on water, sewers, and water treatment plants,"* Prime Minister Dorin Recean pointed out.

The prime minister also mentioned that the 2024-2026 Development Plan has been approved, which means another 100 investment projects and 155 local development projects. In addition, 190 localities will be connected to the public drinking water supply system.

The event was organised on the occasion of the Professional Day of Local Autonomy and Local Public Administration Workers, marked on February 1.
