The European Commission proposes to suspend for another year the taxes on imports from the Republic of Moldova

The European Commission has proposed the renewal for another year of the suspension of all remaining taxes on imports from the Republic of Moldova, effective from July 2022. The proposal is to be examined by the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union. The objective is to ensure a smooth transition from the current regime of autonomous trade measures (AMCs) to the new regime by the time the current regimes expire on 24 July 2024, the European Commission announced.

If the proposal is accepted, it means that exports of seven agricultural products from the Republic of Moldova subject to tariff quotas will continue to be fully liberalized: tomatoes, garlic, table grapes, apples, cherries, plums and grape juice.

"Moldova's exports to the rest of the world suffered from Russia's military aggression against Ukraine, as they often relied on transit through Ukrainian territory and Ukrainian infrastructure. MCAs supported Moldova's efforts to reorient exports through the EU. Overall, exports from the Republic of Moldova to the EU increased from EUR 1.8 billion in 2021 to EUR 2.6 billion in 2022," reads the statement of the European Union.
