Moldova Parliament approves Popșoi resignation, elects Gherman as new vice president

In a parliamentary session on Thursday, Mihai Popșoi, previously the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) vice president, stepped down from his position.

Doina Gherman, another PAS member, was elected to fill the vacant seat. The decision was passed with 55 votes in favour.

Following his appointment as Foreign Minister in January, Popșoi emphasised the importance of a continued "active foreign policy in the public interest," requesting ongoing support from both governing and opposition parties. He cited Romanian diplomat Nicolae Titulescu, highlighting the link between domestic and foreign policy success (Source: Parlamentul Republicii Moldova).

Popșoi praised Gherasimov, who will assume the European Affairs portfolio, acknowledging its complexity but vital role in Moldova's European integration journey. He expressed confidence in a smooth transition and offered support to strengthen the Bureau for European Integration, ensuring immediate delivery for Moldovan citizens.

Gherman, now both the head of the PAS parliamentary faction and Parliament vice-president, assured continued commitment and dedication to her new roles.

This leadership change within PAS coincides with Nicu Popescu's resignation as Foreign Minister in late January.
