Moldova, EU map roadmap for energy reforms
Moldova and the European Union have agreed on a roadmap to guide the country's energy sector reforms, bringing it closer to EU standards and integration with the common energy market.
Following their fifth High-Level Energy Dialogue in Chișinău, European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson announced the joint roadmap, highlighting its role in "strengthening Moldova's energy resilience and transition to a cleaner and more secure energy future."
Simson commended Moldova's progress in aligning its legislation with EU norms and reiterated the EU's commitment to providing technical and financial assistance. She emphasised the urgency of securing alternative energy routes and bolstering infrastructure's resilience against "Russia's manipulation attempts."
Echoing these sentiments, Moldovan Minister of Energy Victor Parlicov acknowledged the EU's crucial role in diversifying Moldova's energy sources and fostering independence from single suppliers. He also emphasised the ambition to join the EU energy market before formal membership, highlighting the anticipated benefits for Moldovan citizens.
Discussions reportedly included proposals to increase electricity import capacity from the European Continental Network and enhance the reverse flow capacity of the Trans-Balkan gas pipeline.
