US Targets Houthi Drones in Red Sea

The US military conducted a self-defence airstrike on Monday, targeting two explosive-laden drone boats operated by Houthi rebels in the Red Sea, Agerpres reports.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) stated, "The drones posed an imminent threat to US naval vessels and commercial shipping."

This operation comes amid heightened regional tensions fueled by the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict. Houthi rebels, backed by Iran, control large parts of Yemen after nearly a decade of war against the government. They claim their actions support Palestinians facing Israeli siege and bombardment.

"We will continue to protect our personnel and interests," affirmed CENTCOM spokesperson Captain Bill Urban. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken reiterated, "Houthi rebels remain a threat to regional security and stability."
