EU's Borrell in Kyiv for Urgent Talks on Ukraine's War Needs
High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, landed in Kyiv on Tuesday for crucial discussions with Ukrainian officials regarding the country's pressing war-related needs.
Borrell, accompanied by his advisor Zaki Laidi, embarked on his fourth visit to Ukraine since the conflict escalated. The trip follows his stop in Poland yesterday, where he reiterated the EU's call for amplifying support for the war-torn nation.
Despite the €50 billion economic aid package approved by the EU, concerns linger about the feasibility of delivering the promised 1 million artillery shells to Ukraine by March, Ukrainian media reports. Additionally, debates surrounding the reformation of the depleted Ukrainian defence financing mechanism are ongoing.
Borrell's visit underlines the EU's increasingly critical role in assisting Ukraine, particularly as the promised $60 billion US aid package remains stalled in Congress due to internal political disputes.
