Chisinau Budget Dispute: PAS Councilors Flag Allegations, Seek Probe
Tensions flared in Chisinau's political landscape as the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) councillors in the city council lodged a formal complaint with the Prosecutor General's Office.
The councillors allege irregularities in the drafting of the capital's budget, raising concerns about potential violations and questionable expenditures.
"There are substantial grounds to believe the budget process deviated from proper procedure," declared PAS councillor Dumitru Ivanov. "We identified several areas where allocated funds, like those for child assistance and heating subsidies, remain unutilized despite clear need within the community. This inaction constitutes a serious breach of citizens' rights."
The complaint specifically requests an investigation into the budget drafting process, seeking to shed light on potential legal transgressions and ensure transparency in resource allocation.
Responding to the allegations, Mayoral Advisor Natalia Ixari defended the budget's integrity and adherence to legal guidelines. "The budget has undergone rigorous preparation and complies with all necessary regulations," she asserted. "It will be presented for public debate as mandated by law, allowing open scrutiny and citizen input."
Ixari further accused PAS representatives of attempting to politicise the issue and divert attention from broader national concerns. "This complaint appears more motivated by political manoeuvring than genuine concern for Chisinau's well-being," she remarked.
With the complaint filed and public debate approaching, the Chisinau budget stands at the centre of a brewing political controversy. Whether the investigation yields evidence of wrongdoing or the PAS claims prove unfounded remains to be seen.
