Roberta Metsola: Europe will be stronger when Romania takes its long-deserved place in the Schengen area
President Klaus Iohannis addressed the European Parliament in Strasbourg. The leader from Cotroceni was invited to participate in the This is Europe debate by the president of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola. Iohannis spoke about the need to expand the Union, but also about its assumption of global leadership.
"Ladies and gentlemen, my country is probably one of the best examples of the transformative power of the European Union. Membership has brought us indisputable and most concrete benefits. The Union means an area of safety, protection and prosperity and diversity," said President Klaus Iohannis.
The European Parliament supports Romania's full accession to the Schengen area. In March, the Romanian state will integrate only with air and sea borders.
"Ukraine is our top priority and a collective responsibility. Europe is stronger because of our united efforts and Romania plays an important role on the eastern flank. Europe will be stronger when Romania joins the euro zone and takes its long-deserved place in the Schengen area", said the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola.
"Romania's full membership of the Schengen area, including obviously with the land borders as soon as possible, will considerably strengthen the Union and the security of the Union. We discussed as we discuss every time, I must also tell you about Moldova, what can be done to support Moldova, especially now that it has been decided that it should become part of the European space", revealed the President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis.
In the last two years, there have been 12 such meetings attended by European leaders. Their aim is to generate a vision of the European future, but also to reaffirm European values and unity.
