Chisinau authorities allow the opening of a polling station for the Russian presidential elections in the Republic of Moldova

The authorities will open a polling station for the presidential elections in Russia on the territory of the Republic of Moldova. This will be set up at the Moscow Embassy in Chisinau, stated the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mihai Popșoi.

"We have forbidden the organization of presidential elections anywhere outside diplomatic missions. If an attempt is made to organize the election anywhere else, this will be counterproductive".

In the event that the Russian Federation will still open polling stations on the left side of the Nistru, the Chisinau authorities will have to have a reaction plan, Mihai Popșoi previously told Radio Moldova.

In previous years, Russia has always opened polling stations in the Transnistrian region, where, according to official data, about 200 thousand people with Russian citizenship live.

During the last elections for the State Duma of the Russian Federation, which took place between September 17-19, 2021, 30 polling stations were opened in the Republic of Moldova, 27 of which were on the left bank of the Nistru. The Chisinau authorities did not give their consent for their opening.

We remind that Russia has sent a request to the Republic of Moldova regarding the opening of polling stations in our country for the presidential elections in the Russian Federation, which are scheduled for March 15-17, 2024.
