Georgia: Gunman Opens Fire in Market, Kills 4
A gunman opened fire in a market in Rustavi, Georgia, on Friday, leaving four people dead and one injured.
The Ministry of Interior confirmed the attacker's arrest, stating, "He has been apprehended and is currently in custody."
Among the victims was the gunman's uncle, according to the Ministry. His cousin sustained injuries and is receiving medical attention.
This incident in Rustavi, roughly 20 kilometres from the capital Tbilisi, marks another unfortunate instance of gun violence in Georgia. While relatively uncommon, it echoes a similar tragedy in January 2023, where a former soldier shot and killed six people, including himself, from his apartment.
Local law enforcement is investigating the motive behind the market shooting and will likely release further details in the coming days.
