US Ambassador to Romania: Russia Trying to Destabilise Moldova
In an interview with Digi24, US Ambassador to Romania Kathleen Kavalec expressed concern about Russia's attempts to destabilise the Moldovan government and highlighted the importance of disinformation.
She praised Romania for its leadership in supporting Moldova's European aspirations.
Romania's Support for Moldova
When asked about the efforts of Romania and the European Union to prevent Moldova from falling under Russian influence, Kavalec commended Romania's leadership in supporting Moldova's European aspirations.
Russian Destabilisation Efforts and Disinformation
Kavalec identified disinformation as a major concern and cited numerous examples of Russia's attempts to destabilise the Moldovan government. She emphasised the US commitment to supporting Moldova, alongside Romania and other partners, in areas such as energy security.
US Assistance to Moldova
Kavalec recently visited Moldova with a trade mission to encourage further investment in the country. The United States has already provided over $300 million in assistance to Moldova and intends to provide more.
Collaboration to Counter Russian Influence
Kavalec emphasised the importance of combating disinformation and helping Moldova address its challenges. She acknowledged Romania's similar efforts and noted appreciation for Western support during her visit to Moldova.
