EU-backed Contest Inspires Gagauz Students
Over 230 students from primary and secondary schools across the Gagauz autonomy competed in the 13th annual drawing and essay contest hosted by the European Center "Pro-Europa" in Comrat.
This year's theme, "Mutual Assistance – The Basis of the Future," inspired entries focused on creative solutions to modern problems.
Student Irina Mitiț shared her focus, "My drawing is about how to save homeless animals because there are many of them these days." Melisa Pavlioglo's work also addressed animal welfare: "When we meet homeless animals, we must help them: feed them, and if possible, shelter them, so they have a better life."
Returning participant Snejana Ceiz appreciates the contest's thought-provoking themes. "This event keeps me engaged because it always tackles relevant, important topics. I'm grateful to express my opinions on current issues," she said.
"I admire this organisation's work and hope the contest continues," remarked student Vitali Bacu. "They even included a quote from my previous essay in their calendar – it highlights how solidarity comes naturally."
A panel of judges selected the most compelling works. Winning entries will appear in the European Center "Pro-Europa" annual calendar.
Irina Caledji, Director of the Center "Pro-Europa" in Comrat, noted the strong turnout and diverse participation. "The contest draws significant interest across our region. From our youngest participant at age 7 to students submitting in multiple languages, this event showcases the thoughtful perspectives of Gagauz youth."
The European Center "Pro-Europa" organises the annual contest in partnership with the Comrat Education Directorate and with support from the European Union.
