Odobescu: There are prospects that the Republic of Moldova will advance in the EU accession process this year

There are prospects that this year the Republic of Moldova will advance in the process of joining the European Union. The statement was made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania, Luminița Odobescu, in an interview for CaleaEuropeană. The head of Romanian diplomacy said that in the near future the first intergovernmental conference will be organized for our country, which establishes the effective framework and the concrete timetable for joining the EU.

"We hope to organize the first intergovernmental conference for the Republic of Moldova, which establishes the effective framework and the concrete accession calendar. This is not enough, the Republic of Moldova is under hybrid pressure from Russia. It needs to strengthen its resilience. We have several European instruments and we will continue to insist not only for financial support from the European Union, but also for the consolidation of these instruments for more European investments in the Republic of Moldova. Moldovan citizens must feel and understand what Europe means and the fact that Europe is with them", declared the Romanian minister.

Luminița Odobescu also spoke about the recent meeting with Mihai Popșoi, the new Foreign Minister from Chisinau, where she discussed how Romania can continue to help the Republic of Moldova on a bilateral and European level.

"I recently met with the new foreign minister and we discussed how we can continue to help the Republic of Moldova, on a bilateral and European level, as the accession negotiations are not simple, but a complex process. I also discussed with the deputy-prime minister for European integration and the Republic of Moldova can be confident that it will succeed, both with our support and with the support of partners", said the head of diplomacy from Romania.

The Foreign Minister of Romania mentioned that he will support our country in the process of joining the European Union. "I continued on this occasion to support the need and importance of further supporting the Republic of Moldova. The Republic of Moldova is affected more than any of us by this war in Ukraine, by all the hybrid actions of Russia. I supported this historic decision to start accession negotiations. This road must be strengthened and we are still with the Chisinau authorities", concluded Odobescu.
