Moldova Introduces Caregiver Leave, Labor Reforms

Moldovan lawmakers have approved new legislation introducing a social leave policy for employees caring for family members with health problems. This leave will be unpaid and last for five working days within a calendar year.

The legislation also includes amendments to the Labor Code aimed at reducing child labour exploitation. Upon reaching the age of 15, individuals may be employed only for light work that does not endanger their safety, health, or development. The amendments establish administrative sanctions to combat child labour exploitation and increase protections for minors.

Additionally, the legislation improves the process of organising shift work and provides more employment opportunities for pregnant women, new mothers, and those who are breastfeeding.

The legislation now awaits final approval by the Moldovan Parliament.
