More than 110 hectares of dry vegetation burnt in the last 24 hours
More than 110 hectares of dry vegetation were compromised by the fires. According to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU), in the last 24 hours, firefighters have intervened in 30 cases of liquidation of vegetation burning outbreaks in several regions of the country.
According to the quoted source, the fires happened in the districts of Ialoveni, Soroca, Șoldănești, Cahul, Călărași, Căușeni, Edineț, Ungheni, Cimișlia, Telenesti, Sângerei, Fălești, Rîșcani, Ștefan-Vodă, Orhei and UTA Găgăuzia.
According to IGSU, a vegetation fire was recorded yesterday evening on the outskirts of Pașcani, Criuleni district. A crew of rescuers and firefighters intervened on the scene. The fire affected four hectares of dry vegetation.
Another fire extinguishing mission happened in the town of Cobîlea, Șoldănești district where the fire affected 30 hectares of dry vegetation. The rescuers' intervention was also needed in the town of Pompa, Fălești district, which covered an area of 10 hectares.
In this context, the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations repeatedly warns people not to set fire to dry vegetation, household waste and reeds. At the same time, people are asked not to throw lit objects on dry grass surfaces, near forest areas and agricultural lands. "In conditions of high temperatures, uncharacteristic for the cold season, low humidity and wind, any spark can cause large-scale fires," reads the IGSU statement.
According to the statistical data of the IGSU, between January 1 and February 19, 2024, 121 interventions of the firemen were registered to liquidate the outbreaks of dry vegetation, as a result of which 138 ha of land were compromised.
