Mircea Geoană: "The Republic of Moldova’s joining the EU is very important for Romania"
The Republic of Moldova’s joining the European Union is very important for Romania, because between the two states there is a common industrial space, said the Deputy Secretary General of NATO, Mircea Geoană, during the "Agri Trade Summit 2024" conference.
" Moldova’s joining the EU is a very good thing for Romania, because a common agro-industrial space, between the two countries so close, represents a positive element for both", said Mircea Geoană.
Also, the Romanian official said that "the European integration of Ukraine will create upheaval in the field of agriculture", which is why "Romania must be prepared so that agro-industrial interests are not affected".
Mircea Geoană said, during the "Agri Trade Summit 2024" conference, that all European and NATO countries have found an institutional formula to coherently address the issue of economic security, according to News.ro.
"From my institutional experience in Romania, I believe that food security, energy security, cyber security, supply chain security, access to technologies and strategic reserves, should be managed in a coherent manner at the level of a joint office between the presidency and the government. An office of economic security", declared Mircea Geoană.
The NATO Secretary General said that Romania should stop talking about agriculture and start talking about agribusiness.
"Agroindustry is part of a wider process of Romania's industrial renaissance and sovereignty in the agri-food and energy fields. All over Europe, in America, in Canada, in the countries of Europe and in the developed world, there is more and more talk about this need to change the industrial model. Agriculture is a specific field, but agroindustry is part of the reborn industrial model of our Romania", concluded Mircea Geoană.
